German firms' sales dropThis article was originally published in Foodnews
GERMANY's seafood processing and wholesale trading companies achieved a total turnover of EUR1.01 billion in the first half of 2010, but this was 4.2% down on the same time in 2009, according to figures from the national statistics office, covering firms with 50 or more employees. The drop in the sales figures accelerated in the second quarter, with a 5.9% decline, compared with 2.7% in the first quarter. The rate of decline was higher for foreign sales (8.2% in January-June) than for domestic sales (3.2%). However, domestic sales were almost four times as high, at EUR807 million, than foreign sales, at EUR202 million.
