UK duties unchanged

This article was originally published in Foodnews

UK Chancellor George Osborne has resisted the temptation to levy new increases in duties on alcohol in his first Budget, but said he will report back in the autumn on possible health-related measures on alcohol. This will mean that, for now, no new duty will be added to the extra 2% above inflation duty rise levied on alcohol by the previous Chancellor, Alistair Darling, in April. Value added tax (VAT) will rise to 20% from 17.5% as of 4 January 2011.
