CHINA's Wahaha Group is moving into powdered infant formula this year, reports the country's Longevity Network. Zong Qinghou, group chairman, told the Chinese Xinhua news agency that a high-end infant formula, called Aidisheng, the Chinese pronunciation of Edison, will be launched with expected annual sales of around 100 000 tonnes worth CNY10.0 billion. According to Zeng, Wahaha will co-operate with a European company to produce the new product. BeingMate is the only domestic brand currently on the premium infant formula market, while global players such as Dumex, Mead Johnson, Wyeth, and Abbott share more than 85% of China's high-end milk powder market. China sees 17 million new born children each year, so the market for infant formula is massive.
