SABMiller trials new canThis article was originally published in Foodnews
SABMILLER has patented an easy-to-open beer can that converts into a drinking cup when the top has been removed, South Africa's Business Week reports. The can, part of an effort to reduce waste and violence at sporting events, will be first introduced at the Football World Cup that starts in South Africa next month, Norman Adami, the managing director of SABMiller's Johannesburg-based unit, said. The can is fully recyclable and can be refilled once opened, reducing the use of glass and plastic and their potential use as missiles. The 440ml (13oz) can will be sold under SABMiller's Castle Lager brand, aimed at the discount market and midmarket.
