New pear types developed

AUSTRALIA's Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has revealed 20 new varieties developed as part of its Austrlian Pear Breeding Programme and it is hoped that they can reinvigorate demand in the fruit. Susanna Turpin of the DPI said the varieties have been developed by cross-pollinating guyot, corella and rogue red pear varieties and they have a red blush on a yellow or green background.
