Improved nut exports

CASHEW nuts accounted for 15.2% of Tanzania's traditional exports last year versus 9.6% the previous year and 8% in 2007, according to the Bank of Tanzania's economic review. The country exported 99 300 tonnes of cashew nuts worth US$71.5 million in 2009 compared with 55 000 tonnes, worth US$40.2 million, the year before. However, analysts say that the high cost of haulage and poor product packing logistics still hinder the cashew trade.
