Peruvian fish production in sharp decline

PERU's fishing fleet landed 22% less fish in January-August this year than the same time in 2009. This was largely due to a 21.5% drop in the volume of anchovy, most of which is used for fishmeal and oil manufacture. However, there were also severe declines in landings of human consumption species, including mackerel, jack mackerel and bonito.
