Philippine proposal to regulate non-crop pesticides

A Philippine legislator has introduced a bill in the country’s House of Representatives seeking to regulate the urban pest control industry. The legislator, Teofisto Guingona, feels that the country’s urban pest control industry is relatively unregulated and there exist pest control operators who do not comply with consumer and environmental standards, and whose quality of general pest control treatments are dubious. "There are many individuals and fly-by-night pest control companies that use chemicals that did not pass through extensive and intensive field trials to ensure bio-efficacy, long-lasting residual efficacy and environment safety," he says.
