EU phase-out dates for napropamide
The European Commission has instructed EU member states to withdraw approvals for the herbicide, napropamide, by May 7th 2009, following the decision not to re-register the active ingredient ( Agrow No 551, p 11). Member states may allow existing stocks to be sold and used until May 7th 2010. Napropamide was in the third round of the EU review of existing ais. The assessment identified concerns related to leaching of the metabolite, NOPA, to ground water, and risks to aquatic organisms and fish-eating birds and mammals, the Commission says.
