Canada OKs Valent's XenTari
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has granted full approval to Sumitomo Chemical subsidiary Valent BioSciences' established bioinsecticide, XenTari WG (Bacillus thuringiens subsp aizawai strain ABTS-1587), for the control of lepidopteran pests on various fruit, vegetable and oilseed crops and ornamentals. The PMRA proposed the registration in August 2014. XenTari has value as an alternative for the supported uses, some of which have few or no registered alternatives, and a few of which include alternatives that are being phased out, the PMRA notes. Registration in Canada would reduce a technology gap with the US and address several high priorities listed in the Canadian Grower Priority Database, the Agency adds.
