EU outlines progress on ED criteria

The European Commission’s Health Directorate General is planning to screen “almost all” active ingredients covered by EU agrochemical and biocide regulations as part of its programme to develop criteria to identify endocrine disruptors (EDs). The screening will aim to define which ais fall under the different identification options that the Commission put forward in a roadmap in 2014. The roadmap suggested various combinations of using the UN WHO’s ED definition together with categories based on strength of evidence or potency. An update on the ED programme was presented by EU Health Commissioner Vytenis Andriukaitis to members of the European Parliament in May. It completed a series of three meetings held over the last month for stakeholders, EU Ministers and MEPs.
