Agdia debuts Vip3A test kit

The US diagnostics company, Agdia (Elkhart, Indiana), has introduced a kit for detecting the Bt Vip3A toxin in Syngenta's genetically modified insect-resistant MIR162 maize. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was developed for trait confirmation testing in seed lots using either individual kernels or leaf material. It is sensitive enough to detect one Vip3A kernel in 100 negative ones, Agdia points out. The ELISA test can be completed in under two hours. Last year, Agdia introduced an ImmunoStrip kit for detecting the toxin in the field.
