Mexican empty container recycling up 9% in 2014

Mexico increased its collection for recycling of empty pesticide containers by 9% in 2014 to some 3,110 tonnes, under the official programme, the Pnrevaa, according to the food quality and health service, the Senasica. That followed a 9.1% rise in collections in 2013. The Ministry of Agriculture runs the Pnrevaa. State and federal agencies have invested some Peso 21 million ($1.4 million at the current rate) in collection centres, recycling plants and equipment. The national system counts on 66 plants and 959 collection centres. The collected items are subsequently recycled. The authorities have set a goal of collecting 3,300 tonnes in 2015, almost 6% above last year’s total.
