Latest Canadian province mulls pesticides
The Canadian province of Manitoba has launched a public consultation on the cosmetic use of pesticides on lawns. As a result of the consultation, it may place restrictions on the sale or use of pesticides for this purpose or just raise awareness about concerns and promote environmentally benign alternatives. Most other Canadian provinces have placed restrictions on cosmetic pesticide use, the most recent one being Newfoundland and Labrador ( Agrow No 620, p 14). Last month, a committee of MPs in British Columbia rejected calls for a ban on cosmetic pesticides ( Agrow No 641, p 14). The Manitoba consultation paper, “Play it Safe”, is open to public comment until October 1st.
